Learn how double paper speed on ECG can mimic sinus bradycardia in elderly patients. Understand pseudo-bradycardia and its impact on waveform interpretation.
This ECG is of 82-year-old elderly gentleman who presented with sepsis. Marked sinus bradycardia was thought of. However, a look at the paper speed (star) showed that the ECG was taken at double the usual speed and hence it was a case of “Pseudo-bradycardia”. The uniform widening of all the waveforms should lead one to check into the speed.
